Now moving into the lower 3.000km of Argentina and still following Ruta National 40, but took a detour to vist the Cañon del Atuel close to San Rafael.

The canyon is a tourist magnet – and visiting on a Saturday might not be the best option. Coming from north this is adventure land. River rafting, climbing etc. – it’s all there for you to enjoy. My target was further south following the river and 3 or 4 hydro powerplants – all on dirt/gravel road but in very good condition. Too many standard cars battling the washboard road, so had to pass them in a dust cloud (yes, it was fun too).

Before checking in at by hostel in Malargüe some heavy thunderstorms was threatening to pour over me – but arrived dry to the spectacle of thunder in the mountains.
